Sending a Game Message

This page walks you through posting and reacting to messages on a game. For what a message is and who can see one, see Messages.

Open the game

Tap the game’s line — from the home feed, from search, from your profile, from a notification, from anywhere it appears. The game profile opens. See The Game Profile if you want a tour of that screen.

Go to the Game Log tab

Below the lineup there’s a row of four tabs: Game Log, Bookings, Roll Call, Invites. Tap Game Log.

The Log is a running feed of everything that’s happened on the game — joins, leaves, edits, cancellations, and also messages people have posted. It doubles as the place where you write new ones.

Type and send

At the bottom of the Log tab is a text field with a send button on the right.

  1. Tap the field — the keyboard comes up.
  2. Type your message. Plain text only — no formatting, no attachments, no links, no @mentions.
  3. Tap send.

Your message appears at the top of the Log feed. Every other message posted to this game stays visible beneath it, so anyone catching up reads the whole thread at once.

Once it’s sent, it’s sent — there’s no edit, no delete. Write with that in mind.

Read what others have written

Scroll the Log tab. Messages are interleaved with the other activity entries, each one showing the author’s avatar, their nickname, a timestamp, and the text. Reactions (if any) show as a row of small avatars under the message — rocks on the left, middle-finger reactions on the right.

React to a message

Under every message you see two icons: 🪨 rock on the left (the “cool” reaction) and 🖕 middle finger on the right (the “not cool” reaction).

  • Tap the rock to like the message. The count ticks up and your avatar joins the left row.
  • Tap it again to take your reaction back.
  • Tap the middle finger to dislike. Same behaviour, opposite side.
  • Tap one while you’re already on the other and Furbol swaps — you can’t be on both rows at once.

For the full mechanics of how the toggle behaves, see Messages.

When do others know you posted?

They don’t get a push — messages don’t ping anyone’s phone. Your message shows up the next time someone opens the game, or browses the activity feed it’s part of. See Notification Preferences for the toggles that control push behaviour generally.

What you can rely on: the message, and the reactions people leave on it, show up in the game’s feed and on your own profile feed — so anyone actively scrolling will see it.
